Loose Leaf Tea Infusers Compared (2026): The 8 Best
8 infusers, from lidded baskets to simple hanging tea balls
- 16models shortlisted
- 8models compared
- 4weighted criteria
Whole leaves in a mug call for a different infuser than fine rooibos in a pot. This comparison covers 8 loose leaf tea infusers from the Amazon range: two lidded baskets, two small balls with a screw-on lid or chain, a snap ball and three plain hanging balls. Manufacturer data and specifications feed the scores for steeping performance, features, build and handling, so you can choose by tea cut and cup size. The OXO Brew takes first place at 8.6 out of 10 with a large basket, etched holes for fine particles and a lid that holds heat and doubles as a drip tray. The Ohtomber is the value pick, the Exptolii set the budget pick.
Key takeaways
- OXO Brew wins: a large lidded basket with etched holes for fine particles, a heat-retaining drip-tray lid, dishwasher safe as listed.
- The Ohtomber is the value pick: roomy extra-fine basket, 304 stainless steel with silicone, entry price class.
- Reinmoson and HOUSE AGAIN name rooibos and other small leaves; Fu Store and YOIYINI warn against small or ground tea.

Ideal for
Mug drinkers who want a roomy basket with a lid that doubles as a drip tray
The lid of the OXO Brew keeps heat in during the steep and afterward becomes the drip tray. Under it sits a large stainless steel basket where leaves can expand, sized for mugs and teapots, with an etched hole pattern that keeps fine tea particles contained. Silicone touchpoints are said to stay cool. It is listed as dishwasher safe, at 5.5 by 3.25 inches and 0.08 kilograms. No steel grade is stated, and it is the only model in the top price class.

8.4/10ExcellentComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Value pick: roomy extra-fine basket in 304 stainless steel with a silicone-fitted lid and heatproof handles.
Ideal for
Cup and mug drinkers who want a roomy basket in the entry price class
Cups and mugs are what the Ohtomber is built for. Its large-capacity basket lets leaves expand and holds more tea than a standard ball, and an extra fine mesh keeps even the tiniest leaves from escaping. Two heatproof handles end in silicone nubs so the basket can hang on a cup, and a lid with silicone is meant to protect fingers from hot tea. The material is 304 food-grade stainless steel with silicone, rust resistant and easy to clean according to the listing. At 0.1 kilograms it is billed as small enough for travel, and it can double as a coffee strainer. No dimensions and no dishwasher statement keep it just behind the OXO.
Pros

Rank 3: Reinmoson Extra Fine Mesh Tea Infuser
Brand: Reinmoson Price level Price level 3 of 4
8.0/10ExcellentComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Slim 304 stainless ball with a threaded lid, a saucer and a claimed 50% more half-sized holes than a standard ball.
Ideal for
Rooibos and chai drinkers who want a secure screw-on lid and a saucer
Small leaves are the Reinmoson's territory. Its listing names rooibos, herbs, green tea, black tea, chai and other small leaves, along with ground coffee, and claims 50% more ultra fine, half-sized holes than a traditional tea ball. The body is a slim ball of 304 food-grade stainless steel, 1.5 by 1.5 by 2.2 inches and 0.04 kilograms. A threaded lid screws on and is said to close more securely than a twist lid, and a saucer catches drips. It can also filter spices for soups and broths. The trade-offs: a 1.5-inch ball holds less than a basket, and the price class is upper-mid for a single infuser.
Pros
- 304 stainless steel with threaded lid
- Claimed 50% more half-sized holes
- Saucer included
- Names rooibos, chai and small leaves
Cons

Ideal for
Teapot and mug users who like a hanging ball with a drip tray to rest on
The HOUSE AGAIN has the longest tea list in the set: rooibos, oolong, sencha, lapsang, chamomile, mint, jasmine, rose and herbal blends. Its micron-sized perforation is meant to trap the smallest particles. It comes as a 2-count set of 304 stainless steel balls at 1.5 by 1.5 by 2.2 inches and 0.03 kilograms. Its chain extends to 4.7 inches and ends in an S-shaped hook; for drips there is a mini tray to rest the ball on. Dishwasher or hand washing both work, and it is said to hold no odors. One oddity: the component field reads “Dough Hook”, which looks like an entry error, so check the box contents. Price class: upper-mid.
Pros
- 304 stainless steel, two infusers in the set

Brand: Exptolii Price level Price level 2 of 4
7.4/10Very goodComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Budget pick: three ultra-fine stainless snap balls on 6.7 in handles; dishwasher safe, no lid or tray.
Ideal for
Cup drinkers who want spare infusers and quick squeeze-open filling
The Exptolii is a three-piece set of stainless steel snap balls, each on a long no-slip handle. Squeeze the handle to open the ball, fill it with loose tea and set it in the cup. The mesh is described as ultra fine, and the steel is called rust-proof, though no grade is given. Overall it measures 6.7 by 1.77 by 1.77 inches. The weight is 21.55 grams. It is dishwasher safe as listed and also suits spices, fruits and seasonings. The compromises are capacity, since each ball is under 2 inches wide, and the missing lid or drip tray. Three pieces in the entry price class earn it the budget award.
Pros
- Three snap balls in one set
- Long no-slip handle, squeeze to open
- Ultra fine mesh described
- Listed as dishwasher safe

6.8/10GoodComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Honey bee tea ball in stainless steel with hook, long chain and pendant; listing excludes ground tea.
Ideal for
Occasional pot brewers who like a decorative ball that hangs on the handle
Lifting the YOIYINI out is easy: this 2.1-inch stainless steel ball has a hook and a long chain that clasp onto a cup or pot. A honey bee pendant is said to help it hang steadily from a pot handle. Cleaning means rinsing it with water and drying it; the ball weighs 0.03 kilograms. The limits are plain. The listing says it is not suitable for ground tea, and no steel grade, lid or drip tray is mentioned. The count is inconsistent too: the title says 2PC, the spec sheet lists one item and the text mentions two pendants. Price class: entry.
Pros
- Hook and long chain for easy lifting

Brand: Fu Store Price level Price level 1 of 4
6.6/10GoodComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Two 2.08 in 304 stainless balls with hooks, unsuitable for small loose tea by their own listing.
Ideal for
Teapot brewers using larger-leaf teas who want a simple hanging ball
The Fu Store is a pair of 2.08-inch mesh balls in 304 stainless steel at 1.12 ounces. Each has a clasp and an attached hook for a teapot or panhandle, so it lifts out easily once the tea has steeped. The rivet is aluminum, so the ball must be washed and dried after every use, and the listing itself says it is not suitable for small loose tea. Beyond drying, it offers no lid, tray or cleaning advice. That makes it an entry-class set for larger-leaf teas.
Pros
- 304 stainless steel balls, two in the set
- Clasp closure and attached hook

Rank 8: Jedrey Tea Ball Infusers (2-Pack)

6.4/10GoodComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Two-pack of fine-mesh tea balls in plastic and stainless steel; the listing gives no size or care details.
Ideal for
Shoppers who only need a basic reusable ball and accept thin product data
The Jedrey is a two-pack of ball-shaped infusers in plastic and stainless steel. Its listing promises a fine mesh and sells the pair as a reusable replacement for disposable tea bags. Beyond that the data is thin: no dimensions, steel grade, cleaning advice or hanging details, and the 3.2 ounce weight does not say whether it covers one ball or both. Nothing in the data sets it apart from the entry-class balls above it, and it belongs to the lower-mid price class. That is why it ends the ranking.

- No size or dimensions listed

- No cleaning or hanging details

Buying guide: what to look for in loose leaf tea infusers
What to look for in a loose leaf tea infuser
An infuser has one job: keep the leaves out of the cup while the water reaches them.
The eight models here do it in four ways: two lidded baskets that sit in the cup, two small balls with a screw-on lid or a chain, a snap ball on a long handle and three plain hanging balls. That choice decides how much room the leaves get, which teas you can brew and how much you handle the infuser while the tea steeps. Where the listings stay silent, on capacity or warranty for example, the text says so.
Basket or ball: how much room the leaves get
The two baskets are the roomiest designs here. The Ohtomber listing says its large-capacity basket lets leaves expand completely and holds more tea than a normal ball, and the OXO Brew describes a large basket that fits in a mug.
The balls are smaller. The Reinmoson and HOUSE AGAIN measure 1.5 by 1.5 by 2.2 inches, the Exptolii is 1.77 inches wide, the Fu Store 2.08 inches and the YOIYINI 2.1 inches. The Jedrey gives no size at all. No listing states a capacity in teaspoons or milliliters, so size is the only guide. Large whole leaves swell as they steep and do better in a basket; a small ball works for a pinch of fine-cut tea or a single cup.
Mesh fineness: from etched holes to micron mesh
Every listing promises that the leaves stay in, but the wording differs. The OXO relies on an etched hole pattern that keeps fine particles contained, the Ohtomber names an extra fine mesh, the Exptolii an ultra fine mesh and the HOUSE AGAIN micron-sized perforations. The Reinmoson goes furthest, claiming 50% more ultra fine, half-sized holes than a traditional ball, while the Jedrey says only fine mesh. None of this is measured: no listing gives a hole size, so treat it all as claims.
Two warnings matter more. The Fu Store is not suitable for small loose tea, and the YOIYINI is not suitable for ground tea. For rooibos, chai blends or broken leaves, the Reinmoson and HOUSE AGAIN are the two that name them.
Lids, drip trays and hanging options
After the steep, the designs split. The OXO lid retains heat while the tea brews, then works as a drip tray. The Ohtomber also has a lid with silicone, and its double handles end in silicone nubs so the basket can hang on the cup. The Reinmoson comes with a saucer and a threaded lid that the listing calls more secure than a traditional twist lid. The HOUSE AGAIN adds a mini drip tray and a 4.7-inch chain with an S-shaped hook. The YOIYINI (hook, long chain and bee pendant) and the Fu Store (an attached hook for a teapot or panhandle) hang on the vessel too, but neither lists a tray. The Exptolii skips all of that and relies on its long handle.
Materials and build
Four listings state 304 stainless steel: the Ohtomber (food grade, with silicone), the Reinmoson, the HOUSE AGAIN and the Fu Store. The OXO, Exptolii and YOIYINI list stainless steel without a grade, and the Jedrey combines plastic with stainless steel. Small parts matter. The Fu Store’s rivet is aluminum, so the ball has to be dried after every wash. The OXO adds silicone touchpoints that stay cool, and the Ohtomber’s silicone nubs and lid do the same job. None of the eight listings states a warranty term.
Size, weight and care
Weights run from 21.55 grams (Exptolii) to 0.1 kilograms (Ohtomber), with the OXO at 0.08 kilograms. The Fu Store (1.12 ounces) and the Jedrey (3.2 ounces) do not say whether that covers one piece or the whole pack.
Care advice is patchy. The OXO and Exptolii are listed as dishwasher safe, the HOUSE AGAIN can go in the dishwasher or be washed by hand, and the Ohtomber and Reinmoson are described as easy to clean. The Fu Store and YOIYINI ask you to keep the ball dry after cleaning. The Jedrey gives no advice at all. In a drawer the baskets take the most room, the OXO at 5.5 by 3.25 inches, while the Ohtomber’s package is described as small enough for travel.
Which infuser for which cup?
- Whole-leaf tea in a mug: the OXO Brew, or the Ohtomber if you prefer the entry price class.
- Rooibos, chai and other small leaves: the Reinmoson or the HOUSE AGAIN, the two that name them.
- A teapot or large pot: the HOUSE AGAIN with its 4.7-inch chain, or the Fu Store and YOIYINI hooks for larger leaves.
- Spare infusers for home and office: the three-piece Exptolii set.
- Travel: the Ohtomber, whose package is described as small. For tea on the go, pair it with insulated bottles that hold hot tea and check that the listing states a hot hold.
- A decorative hanging ball: the honey bee YOIYINI, as long as you skip ground tea.
Buying mistakes to avoid
- Two listings warn against small or ground tea, so match the infuser to the cut of your leaves before you buy.
- “Extra fine”, “ultra fine” and “micron” are marketing words, and no listing gives a hole size. Read them as claims, not measurements.
- Item counts can mislead: the YOIYINI title says 2PC while its spec sheet lists one item, and the HOUSE AGAIN component field says “Dough Hook”. Check the box contents.
- Only the OXO, Reinmoson and HOUSE AGAIN list a lid, saucer or tray to rest on. The other infusers need a spoon or saucer of your own.
- The Fu Store, with its aluminum rivet, and the YOIYINI both want a dry ball after washing, so let them dry fully before they go back in the drawer.
Using a tea infuser and keeping it clean
Fill an infuser only part of the way so the leaves can expand. Rinse it right after steeping, before leaf residue dries onto the mesh, and let it dry fully before storing it. Where a listing gives dishwasher advice, follow it; otherwise wash by hand. Balls, chains and saucers dry well on a rack from our dish drying rack comparison. If you keep loose tea in jars, the jar opener comparison covers tools for stubborn lids. Our dishes, lids, knives and tea checklist walks through drying, opening, sharpening and steeping in one routine, and every kitchen comparison is collected in the Kitchen category.
How we scored the eight infusers
No infuser was used for this page. Each score is built from manufacturer data, specifications, the parts in the box and the price class. We picked 8 of 16 candidates and rated every criterion against the other seven. Steeping performance carries the most weight at 35%, then features and versatility at 25%, with build quality and materials at 20% and handling and care at 20%. The weighted total becomes the score out of 10. A gap in the data is not filled with a guess; it caps the credit a model can earn. The scoring criteria and sources are laid out in full on our methodology page.
Frequently asked questions
Is a basket or a ball better for loose leaf tea?
A basket, if the leaves are whole. Baskets give them more room: the Ohtomber’s large-capacity basket is said to let leaves expand completely, and the OXO Brew’s large basket fits mugs. The balls here measure between 1.5 and 2.1 inches (the Jedrey gives no size). A ball is lighter and hangs from a chain or hook, so it suits a teapot or a small cup.
Which infuser suits fine teas such as rooibos?
Reinmoson and HOUSE AGAIN. Both name rooibos and describe micron-level mesh, and the Reinmoson claims 50% more ultra fine, half-sized holes than a traditional ball. The Ohtomber lists an extra fine mesh, the Exptolii an ultra fine mesh and the OXO an etched hole pattern for fine particles. The Fu Store and YOIYINI warn against small or ground tea. No listing gives a hole size, so treat all of this as claims.
Can I put a tea infuser in the dishwasher?
For some, yes. The OXO Brew and Exptolii are listed as dishwasher safe, and the HOUSE AGAIN can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher. The Fu Store and the YOIYINI ask you to keep the ball dry after cleaning, and the Fu Store’s rivet is aluminum. The Ohtomber and Reinmoson are called easy to clean, and the Jedrey gives no advice, so hand-wash those three and dry them fully.
Can an infuser also strain coffee or spices?
Several listings say yes. The Ohtomber doubles as a coffee strainer. The Reinmoson names ground coffee and works as a spice filter for soups, sauces and broths, the HOUSE AGAIN lists coffee among its uses, and the Exptolii mentions spices, fruits and seasonings. After strongly flavored ingredients, rinse thoroughly so the flavor does not carry over into your next cup of tea.
How much tea does an infuser hold?
No listing gives a capacity in teaspoons or milliliters. The Ohtomber says its basket holds more than a normal tea ball, and the OXO describes a large basket; the balls are roughly 1.5 to 2.1 inches across. Fill an infuser only part of the way so the leaves can expand, and pick a basket if you usually brew a full mug.
Did you use these infusers yourselves?
No. We ran no lab tests and handled none of these infusers; this is a data comparison. Scores come from manufacturer specifications, product data, included parts and price class, with each model rated against the other seven. Gaps are never filled by guessing, and claims such as mesh fineness are reported as claims. The methodology page explains each step.
