- 16models shortlisted
- 8models compared
- 4weighted criteria
This comparison lines up 8 dual-compartment trash and recycling bins from the Amazon range and scores them on capacity and sorting, lid and pedal features, build and handling, based on manufacturer data and specifications. Our comparison winner is the EKO EcoCasa II (8.5 out of 10), which has the highest pedal rating in the set at 200,000+ steps. The SIMPLI-Magic is the premium pick, the NEWBULIG the best value and the ComfyCorner the budget pick. The comparison helps you choose between an even split and a large-and-small layout, and between a roomy 21-gallon unit and a slim 13-gallon one.
Key takeaways
- EKO EcoCasa II wins: a 200,000+ step pedal rating, damped steel lids and the lowest listed weight (13.1 lb).
- Capacity runs from 13 to 21 gallons; four models split evenly and three pair one large and one small bucket.
- Only four listings state a pedal rating and none states a warranty, so check lid and pedal details before you buy.

Rank 1: EKO EcoCasa II 36L+24L Dual Trash Can with Recycle Bin
Brand: EKO Price level Price level 3 of 4
8.5/10ExcellentComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Our comparison winner: 200,000+ step pedal rating, damped steel lids and the lowest listed weight in the set.
Ideal for
Busy kitchens that want a durable pedal and a bin that is easy to lift and carry
The EKO EcoCasa II splits its about 16 gal (60 L) into a 36 L and a 24 L bin, which suits households whose two waste streams differ clearly in volume. Its pedal is engineered for more than 200,000 step cycles, the highest rating in this set, and the reinforced stainless steel lids carry built-in dampers for a quiet close. A deodorizer compartment with an odor seal addresses smells, and handles on the outer body make the bin easier to lift. At 13.1 lb it is also the lightest unit with a listed weight. The trade-offs are the smaller 24 L side, no liners in the package and no stay-open mode in the listing.
Pros
- Pedal rated for 200,000+ steps, the highest here
- Reinforced steel lids with built-in dampers
- Lightest listed weight (13.1 lb) plus side handles
- Deodorizer compartment and odor seal
Cons
- Uneven 36 L + 24 L split limits the smaller side
- No liners listed in the package
- No stay-open lid mode mentioned

8.1/10ExcellentComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Equal 2 x 8 gal buckets, lids that hold open at 90° and 15 liners included – but the heaviest body listed.
Ideal for
Cooks who want both lids open at once and a ready-to-use set of liners
The SONGMICS 2 x 8 gallon is the all-rounder of the set. Its two inner buckets are the same size, each lid can stay open at 90° while you cook, and the soft-close lids shut quietly and seal to keep odors in and curious pets out. The bin and lids are stainless steel, the buckets are PP plastic with side handles, and the reinforced pedals are rated for more than 180,000 steps. Fifteen liner bags come in the box, so the bin is ready to use on arrival. The weak points are weight, at 20.4 lb the highest listed, a 23.2 in length that needs a wide gap, and no warranty information.
Pros
- Equal 8-gallon buckets, each lid holds open at 90°
- Pedal rated for 180,000+ steps
- 15 liner bags included
- Stainless bin and lids, handles on the buckets

Brand: SONGMICS Price level Price level 3 of 4
8.0/10ExcellentComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/202619 gal with a 13 + 6 gallon split, a step-on or lift-open lid and 15 starter bags – plastic lids are the compromise.
Ideal for
Larger households that want one big and one small bucket in a single can
The SONGMICS 13 + 6 gallon holds 19 gallons in total, the second-largest capacity here after the SIMPLI-Magic, and deliberately mixes sizes: a 13-gallon bucket for the larger waste stream and a 6-gallon bucket for the smaller one. The lid opens either with the foot pedal or by hand, and lifting it to 90° keeps it up during food prep; it closes softly. Built-in bag holes keep liners from slipping, and 15 starter bags sized for the 13-gallon side are included. The bin is stainless steel, but the lids are PP plastic, the listing gives no pedal rating and it mentions no odor feature. Weight is 19.4 lb.
Pros
- 19 gal total with a 13 + 6 gallon split
- Step-on or manual-lift lid that holds at 90°
- Bag holes plus 15 starter bags (13 gal)
- Soft-close lid
Cons

Brand: SIMPLI-Magic Price level Price level 4 of 4
7.9/10Very goodComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Largest capacity here: 21 gal as two 40 L buckets, with a filter holder in the lid – but the longest footprint.
Ideal for
Big households and offices that fill a bin daily and have floor space to spare
The SIMPLI-Magic is the capacity leader: 21 gallons (80 L) split into two color-coded 40 L buckets, so both waste streams get equal room and bags go longer between changes. A soft-close mechanism brings the lid down in under 3 seconds, and a stay-open mode holds it up during longer clean-ups. A filter holder compartment in the lid is meant to cut smells between bag changes, although the listing does not say a filter is supplied. The brushed stainless finish is smudge-resistant. At 26.5 in it is the longest unit in the set, no weight is listed, bags are sold separately, and it sits in the top price class.
Pros
- Largest capacity: 21 gal as 2 × 40 L
- Color-coded buckets for quick sorting
- Stay-open mode plus a soft-close lid
- Filter holder compartment in the lid

7.8/10Very goodComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Our value pick: two 8-gallon buckets, a stay-open lid at about 80° and the shortest body in the set.
Ideal for
Smaller kitchens that need an even 8 + 8 gallon split in a short footprint
The NEWBULIG pairs a 16-gallon body with two removable 8-gallon (30 L) buckets and puts numbers on them: each bucket is listed for up to 20 standard water bottles or 45 cans, which makes sorting easy to plan. The lid opens to about 80° and stays up, closes softly, and fits tightly enough to hold odors in and keep pets out. The stainless exterior resists fingerprints, and the steel pedal is rated for 150,000 steps. At 18.9 in it is the shortest unit here, and as the best-scoring model in the two lower price classes it takes the value award. Missing are liners, a listed weight and any warranty information, and its lid opens less far than the 90° lids of the SONGMICS models.
Pros
- Buckets listed for 20 bottles or 45 cans each
- Stay-open lid at about 80°, soft-close
- Pedal rated for 150,000 steps
- Shortest body: 18.9 in long

Brand: DUMOS Price level Price level 2 of 4
7.3/10Very goodComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Strong pedal claims – 150,000+ steps, 300,000+ lid cycles – but few extras and no stay-open mode.
Ideal for
Buyers who rank pedal durability above extras
The DUMOS 2 x 8 gallon puts its effort into the mechanics. The listing names the metal as 410 stainless steel, which no other listing does, and gives two durability figures: a steel pedal rated beyond 150,000 steps, plus more than 300,000 lid cycles, the only lid-cycle figure in the set. Two removable buckets with a heavy-duty plastic inner build, a sealed lid design and soft-close action round out the basics, and at 17.4 lb it is lighter than both SONGMICS models. Beyond that the feature list is thin: no stay-open mode, no odor compartment, no liners (the package lists only a user manual) and a 23.2 in length that is among the longest here.
Pros
- Pedal rated 150,000+ steps and 300,000+ lid cycles
- Steel grade named: 410 stainless
- 17.4 lb, lighter than both SONGMICS models
- Sealed lid design with soft-close

Brand: Home Zone Living Price level Price level 2 of 4
7.2/10Very goodComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Slimmest body at 11.6 in wide, with tuck bands and liners in the box – but only 13 gal in total.
Ideal for
Narrow gaps between cabinets and apartments with little floor space
The Home Zone Living is built for tight spots. Its tall, narrow body is 11.6 in wide, the slimmest in the set, so it slips between cabinets or into a corner. Integrated rubber tuck bands hold liners in place, and the package includes an 8-gallon and a 5-gallon liner that add up to the 13-gallon total. The bin is designed around the brand's own liner codes, 20R and 30R. The lid closes softly and the brushed stainless finish resists fingerprints; at 16.5 lb it is the second-lightest unit with a listed weight. The price of the compact form is capacity: 13 gallons is the smallest total here, and the listing gives no pedal rating, no stay-open mode and no odor feature.
Pros
- Slimmest body: 11.6 in wide
- Rubber tuck bands hold liners in place
- 8-gallon and 5-gallon liners included
- Soft-close lid, brushed stainless finish

6.9/10GoodComparison score · data-based comparison, no hands-on testAs of 10/2026Entry-priced 16 gal with two pedals and an odor box in each lid – but vague about its buckets and package.
Ideal for
Shoppers on the tightest budget who still want a stainless exterior
The ComfyCorner is the entry-class model in the set. It combines a stainless steel exterior with an ABS inner barrel and two removable inner buckets, and its listing mentions two stainless steel foot pedals. Each lid carries a built-in odor-control box, and the soft-close lid has a stay-open mode, a lid feature set that several higher-priced models lack. The listing is where it loses points: it does not say how the 16 gallons are divided between the buckets, the package contents read only "stainless steel" next to a unit count of 2, and neither a pedal rating nor a warranty appears. At 20.1 lb it is one of the heavier units.
Pros
- Entry price class with a stainless exterior

- No pedal rating or warranty listed

Buying guide: what to look for in trash and recycling bins
What to look for in a trash and recycling bin
A dual-compartment step can puts trash and recyclables into one body, with two inner buckets that lift out for emptying. All eight models compared here share that idea, a stainless steel exterior, a foot pedal and a soft-closing lid, so the choice comes down to details: the volume split, lid and pedal behavior, odor control, and the floor space and weight you are signing up for.
Capacity and bucket split: 13 to 21 gallons
Total capacity runs from 13 gallons (Home Zone Living) to 21 gallons (SIMPLI-Magic, 80 L). Five models sit at 16 gallons, the SONGMICS 13 + 6 reaches 19, and how the volume is divided matters as much as the total. Four bins split evenly: the SIMPLI-Magic into two 40 L buckets, and the NEWBULIG, DUMOS and SONGMICS 2 x 8 into two 8-gallon buckets each. Three pair a large and a small bucket: the EKO (36 L + 24 L), the SONGMICS 13 + 6 and, judging by its liner sizes, the Home Zone Living (8 + 5 gallons). ComfyCorner does not say. An uneven split suits a household whose two waste streams clearly differ in volume, while an even split is easier if you sort heavily on both sides. NEWBULIG helps with planning: it lists each of its buckets for up to 20 standard water bottles or 45 cans.
Lid, pedal and noise
Every model is opened with a foot pedal, and all eight list a soft or quiet close, so lids should not slam. The difference is what happens next. Five listings describe a function that keeps the lid up during cooking: NEWBULIG opens to about 80°, the SONGMICS 2 x 8 holds each lid at 90°, the SONGMICS 13 + 6 lets you lift the lid by hand to 90°, and SIMPLI-Magic and ComfyCorner offer a stay-open mode without naming an angle. EKO, DUMOS and Home Zone Living mention none. Durability is claimed in steps: 200,000+ for the EKO, 180,000+ for the SONGMICS 2 x 8, 150,000 for the NEWBULIG and 150,000+ for the DUMOS, which adds 300,000+ open-close cycles. The other four give no figure. These are manufacturer claims with unknown conditions, not guarantees.
Odor control and pets
Six listings address odors, though only three build in a dedicated space: SIMPLI-Magic has a filter holder in the lid, ComfyCorner an odor-control box in each lid and EKO a deodorizer compartment with an odor seal. NEWBULIG, DUMOS and the SONGMICS 2 x 8 describe tight or sealed lids instead, and the NEWBULIG and SONGMICS 2 x 8 listings add that the lid keeps pets out of the contents. The SIMPLI-Magic lists the holder but no filter, so check what it takes. The SONGMICS 13 + 6 and Home Zone Living mention neither odors nor pets. For scent in the room itself, see aroma diffusers compared, and if a cat shares the kitchen, see the cat water fountain comparison.
Materials and build
All eight carry a fingerprint- or smudge-resistant stainless steel exterior. Six list a brushed finish and NEWBULIG a polished one, while the SONGMICS 13 + 6 does not name its finish. The differences sit inside and on top. The SONGMICS 2 x 8 pairs stainless lids with PP plastic buckets, the SONGMICS 13 + 6 uses PP plastic lids, ComfyCorner combines its stainless exterior with an ABS inner barrel, and EKO describes its lids as reinforced stainless steel. DUMOS is the only listing that names the steel grade (410) and its heavy-duty plastic inner bucket. None of the eight states a warranty period, so the pedal ratings above are the only longevity signal in the data.
Size, weight and liners
Heights cluster between 24.3 and 26.6 in, but lengths range from 18.9 in (NEWBULIG) to 26.5 in (SIMPLI-Magic) and widths from 11.6 in (Home Zone Living) to 15.6 in (SIMPLI-Magic). Listings assign length and width inconsistently, so check the gap against both numbers. Six listings state a weight, from 13.1 lb (EKO) to 20.4 lb (SONGMICS 2 x 8); SIMPLI-Magic and NEWBULIG give none. Liners are an easy cost to overlook. Both SONGMICS bins ship with 15 bags, sized for the 13-gallon side on the 13 + 6, Home Zone Living includes an 8-gallon and a 5-gallon liner and names its own liner codes (20R and 30R), and SIMPLI-Magic states plainly that bags are sold separately. The rest list none.
Which model suits which kitchen?
- A durable pedal and an easy-to-lift body: the EKO EcoCasa II combines the highest pedal rating with the lowest listed weight and side handles.
- Both lids open while you cook: the SONGMICS 2 x 8 gallon holds each lid at 90° and includes 15 liners.
- One big bucket and one small one: the SONGMICS 13 + 6 gallon offers 19 gallons with a 13 + 6 split and bag holes.
- Maximum volume with room to spare: the SIMPLI-Magic holds 21 gallons, if you can accommodate 26.5 in of length.
- An even split in a short footprint: the NEWBULIG is 18.9 in long and lists bottle and can capacity for each bucket.
- A narrow gap between cabinets: the Home Zone Living is 11.6 in wide, at the cost of capacity.
- The tightest budget: the ComfyCorner is the only entry-class model, though its bucket split is not stated.
Common mistakes when buying
- Judging by total gallons alone: a 6-gallon side fills sooner than an 8-gallon side, whatever the total says.
- Buying bags before checking the buckets: sizes are given per bucket, and Home Zone Living is built around its own liner codes.
- Forgetting lid clearance: the EKO description gives 37 in of height with the lids open, against 25.9 in closed, which matters under a counter or shelf.
- Reading pedal ratings as a warranty: the figures describe the pedal only, and no listing here states a warranty period.
Setup and care tips
Place the bin where the pedal can be pressed without moving the unit and where the lids can open fully. Lift the buckets out to empty and rinse them, and wipe the steel with a damp cloth to clear fingerprints. Local collection rules differ, so check what your hauler accepts before you decide which bucket takes what.
A larger bin often means rethinking storage nearby. Our comparison of vacuum storage bags covers one way to free up cabinet space for clothes and bedding, and under-bed storage boxes are another. More everyday home helpers are collected in our household comparisons.
How we compared
Our basis is manufacturer data, specifications, included components and price class; the bins were not in our hands. From 15 candidates we selected 8 and scored every criterion relative to the other models in this set: capacity and sorting counts 35%, lid, pedal and features 25%, build quality and materials 20%, and handling and care 20%. The weighted result is the score out of 10. Missing data is not estimated; it simply limits the credit a model can earn. The method behind the scores is written up in full.
Frequently asked questions
How big should a dual-compartment bin be?
The compared bins hold 13 to 21 gallons in total. Five of the eight sit at 16 gallons, which makes that the common middle ground, and the SIMPLI-Magic at 21 gallons is the roomiest. Total volume matters less than the split, because a 6-gallon side fills sooner than an 8-gallon side. Measure the cabinet or corner first, since lengths run from 18.9 to 26.5 inches.
Is an even split or a large-and-small split better?
It depends on what you throw away. Four models split their volume evenly (SIMPLI-Magic, NEWBULIG, DUMOS and the SONGMICS 2 x 8), which suits households that recycle about as much as they discard. EKO (36 L + 24 L) and the SONGMICS 13 + 6 pair a large and a small bucket, a better fit when one waste stream clearly dominates. ComfyCorner does not state its split.
Which liners fit a bin with two buckets?
Match the bag to the bucket, not the total. The listings give bucket sizes in gallons or liters, so a 13-gallon bucket (50 L) takes 13-gallon bags. The SONGMICS 13 + 6 includes 15 bags sized for its large side, the SONGMICS 2 x 8 includes 15 liners, and Home Zone Living ships an 8-gallon and a 5-gallon liner and names its own liner codes, 20R and 30R. SIMPLI-Magic says bags are sold separately.
Do pedal ratings show how long a bin will last?
Only roughly. Four listings give a figure: 200,000+ steps for EKO, 180,000+ for the SONGMICS 2 x 8, 150,000 for NEWBULIG and 150,000+ for DUMOS, which adds 300,000+ open-close cycles. These are manufacturer claims with unspecified conditions. At 25 openings a day, 150,000 steps would take about 16 years, so the numbers signal a pedal built for heavy use rather than a promise for the whole bin.
Do stainless steel bins show fingerprints?
All eight listings describe a fingerprint- or smudge-resistant stainless exterior. Six list a brushed finish, NEWBULIG a polished one, and the SONGMICS 13 + 6 does not name its finish. Resistant is not the same as immune, so expect occasional marks around the lid and pedal, which a damp cloth removes.
Did you physically handle these bins?
No. We run no lab tests, and none of these bins were in our hands. The ranking rests on manufacturer specifications, listing data, included components and price class, compared within this set of eight. Each criterion is scored from 0 to 10 and weighted; gaps in the data are never filled with guesses. The "How we compared" section describes the full process.
